How to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

If you want to do your part to mitigate climate change, its important to remember that small changes can add up to be a big impact. There are three main areas in life where you can be more mindful: household, travel, and lifestyle [8].

Carbon Capture Offsets

You can help to lower the cost of carbon sequestration by investing in carbon capture, or purchasing offsets from carbon capture companies. Direct carbon capture remains one of the most expensive methods of sequestration, and has some of the most benefits. DCC have low land usage, improve air quality/ecosystems, and permanently remove carbon, unlike some other offsets [8].

In the voluntary carbon offset market, VCM, we can make a difference and purchase offsets. “Climeworks is the leading business-to-consumer provider of DCC offsets, but there are others using biochar, mineralization, concrete, and the ocean to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and permanently lock it away for decades [8]”.

Of course, carbon offsets and lifestyle changes can’t solve climate change on their own – but by getting involved in your local community, and advocating for green policies and bills, we can make a difference that will result in country-wide, and possibly world-wide change.
